This Boarfish was shot at Ohinau Island, located just outside Mercury Bay. A known place to find these worm eating fish.

Not initialy noticing the strange obstruction around it's head I was neeling at 20 metres on the sand bottom looking for some action. Just as I started to acend, looking across to my left, when I noticed a profile just behind a piece of seaweed. As much as I could figure the boar notice me at the same time. So dropping back down in order to hide behind the weed then moving in to take the shot.

It wasn't until ikeeing the fish did I notice the noose around it's head. It seems to be a kind of noose that would be used to catch crayfish.

In the second photo it's clear where the noose originaly cut through. The top of the noose is pretty much the way I found it, but the bottom was originaly rentering the body just above the bottom of the wound at the base of the fish.

Judging by the growth of forigen sealife on the noose & the way the bottom of the fish had actually growen over the noose I would say the this Boar fish has sufferd this mono for a long time. But I'm no expert on the matter.

Despite What this fish had to put up with, it was in very good condition.
