| In New
Zealand we have a large variation of fish sizes and find it
to be quite arduous to tow the fish behind as this causes a
lot of drag. Although there are some production models but due
to the cost most divers build their own from plywood, fiberglass
or sometimes even modify the end of a kayak. The other main
reason for these plats is the increase in shark sightings and
attacks on the fish on the floatline. The perfect plat is not
the easiest thing to design. It must be easy to tow, must not
sit to high out of the water and catch to much wind. It wants
to be long enough to carry the likes of a kingfish. Another
problem to overcome is centering the weight. However there are
plenty of benefits too. Some have different compartments so
that drinks and food or spare parts for the speargun can be
stored. |
